To increase my emotional wellbeing, I do not always need to rely on medicine to solve the problem. I found it interesting that two speakers who came to our class believed in using others natural methods instead of relying heavily on medicine. The first speaker was Dr. Kaycie Grigel who is a naturopathic doctor. She brought in many different herbs and explained how they can help and effect the body in positive ways. One of the herbs that she talked about was chamomile which is calming and soothing. This would help reduce stress would would improve my emotional wellness and prevent anxiety. Another herbs she discussed included cinnamon, ginger, pepper, and lavender which puts your body in a more relaxed state. She taught us that herbs can be used to treat colds and keep your body healthy. It is so interesting to see how much of an impact herbs can have to create a healthier lifestyle. She encouraged me to use more natural remedies in my life instead of always relying on medicine the next time I am sick.
The second speaker we had this quarter was Reilly Jernigan who is an acupuncturist and massage therapist. She also supported the idea of using natural remedies to boost emotional wellness. She said that using methods such as acupuncture and message therapy can be used as a treatment for medical problems and also a way to deal with one’s emotions. One example she used to explain this idea was how certain points on the body correlate to emotion such as the emotion of grief. By dealing with these emotions through acupuncture it can be an outlet for people to be aware of their wellbeing in a unique way that can have health benefits.
For me it is so interesting that many people rely so much on westernized medicine and do not incorporate others types of more natural treatments to keep your body healthy. The body has both aspects of physical wellness and emotional wellness which go hand in hand. By taking care of your body physically your emotional wellbeing would increase because you are treating you body properly and providing it with everything it needs to function effectively. Eating or drinking herbs in tea, acupuncture, and message therapy are all physical methods of taking care and healing your body, but also have a major effect on your emotions. It’s good to have more natural remedies because medicine sometimes is just used as a temporary solution.
